In your quest for personal development, you need to start off first with a specific goal. Now, don’t be in a hurry to just directly stating or deciding a goal. You need to fully think about first. You would either want to develop an aspect in your personal part or in your professional part. It’s all up to you, but what’s important is you need to fully plan the goal. For example, after your done choosing what you would like to accomplish, next is plan how to accomplish this, set a timeline and how will you be able to evaluate if you were successful in achieving your goal after a specified time.
First things first, let me give you some examples on what could be your personal development goals. You choose from this list or you could make your own.
Personal Goals like:
- Losing weight
- Changing a bad attitude
- Rechecking your priorities
- Saving money
- Defining who you really are
- Showing your family that you love them
Professional Goals like:
- develop leadership skills
- Avoiding screw ups
- Learn to avoid stress
- Enhance your job performance
- Communicate openly with your workmates
These are just very common and basic goals, so if you have other goals in mind, you can also make your own goals. After choosing your goal, you should now check how this goal may change or affect your life? As I mentioned, it is important to set time in achieving your goals. Try to choose to set up goals with a long term and a short term version. For instance, if you plan on losing weight set up a goal on how much weight will you lose after six months so for example you want to lose 50 lbs. To back that goal up, you can also set a short term goal on how much you can lose per week to sum it after six months. This way you will keep track if you’re chances on achieving the 6 month goal is high, if you think that it’s not, you immediately initiate a plan b to make sure that the long term goal can be achieved.
Properly set goals help you fully plan your way to success, through this you can keep track if you still walking the path to reach the destination you want to arrive on, if you see that you’re not getting closer in achieving it. Through these goals you can easily formulate new plans or methods to arrive on the same destination without much delay and be successful in your quest for personal growth.
You should remember that even a perfect goal cannot guarantee success, in the end it’s still all up to you. So be persistent, and if ever you fail, don’t give up, backtrack on what part made you lose your way to success, reformulate a plan and do it again until you succeed in your pursuit to personal development. Remember, there are no shortcuts in the road to success, but if never give up and live through until you reach it, you won’t ever regret it.
